    The untimely death of Joshi’s husband led her to start a small home based catering business to support her family. Making rotis manually was an arduous task and she couldn’t afford to hire help either. Milling flour for the some purpose would take over an entire day because of 3-4 hours of power cuts daily. Smt. Joshi invested in a solar-powered rob-rolling machine, and a flour-milling machine. This reduced her production time and increased her income. She later employed more women to help her.

    Solar powered multi-grain flour milling as a source of livelihood for Rosy, a champion woman entrepreneur Rosy Louis Dabale, from Agsalkatta, a remote village in North Karnataka, who works as a community health worker in the village and also manages the flour mill at her house premises.

    Being one of the unique communities with people from East African origin, these villagers with small landholdings grow maize, paddy, sugarcane and pulses. With the solar powered flour milling service, the communities don’t have to travel to the nearest town today as the milling center provides the key service for the community that is much needed.
