Various levels of educational institutions, including anganwadis, primary and secondary schools, ITIs as well as special schools are crucial for child development. It plays a crucial role in ensuring better learning outcomes amongst underserved communities. The majority of the centers operate in remote village areas or in pockets of land occupied by the urban poor and cater to the children from these villages. As per the educational status reports (conducted by a national NGO focused on learning outcomes), the drop out rates from such community institutions stands at 38%, which brings into focus the poor condition of last mile education centers.
The lack of access to reliable energy creates uncomfortable learning environments for students, educators, and workers, ultimately leading to poor learning outcomes. It inhibits the adoption of newer, more interactive educational mediums and tools, including audio-visual aids, laptops and projectors especially in last-mile geographies. . It creates uncomfortable learning spaces in the absence of Basic lighting and cooling.
Catalyzed by Decentralized Renewable Energy, access to new educational services, including digital education mediums that complement traditional teaching methods can be developed. By improving the built environment and technologies in use, the comfort and effectiveness of learning spaces tend to improve.
